04 Jun Digital Marketing Trend in Thailand
In 2017, less than half of Thailand’s population have access to the internet despite continuous large investments into building the country’s communication and transport infrastructure. However, it is predicted that the internet penetration rate in Thailand will increase to 67.7% by 2022, with the expected increase in population and urbanisation. The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) proposed a likely population growth to over 68.6 million (from 68.3 million in 2017), and an increase of people living in towns and cities to 57.8% (57.2% in 2017).
People living in more developed areas of Thailand have fiercely embraced technology and connectivity — connected Thais are ranked as some of the most active online users globally. Various companies, including Grab and LINE, are driving activity and innovation in e-commerce in Thailand. Innovation fuels increasing positive consumer sentiment amongst Thais regarding e-commerce. According to a survey by Nielsen, 38% of responses indicated present use of e-commerce for online FMCG purchases; close to 60% of respondents have also shared on the possibility of using e-commerce in the future.
